| About
Portugal
Portugal is a very stable democracy and part of the
European Union, located in the Southwest corner of mainland Europe, next to Spain. Language:
English is spoken everywhere in the resorts we offer as part of our golf tours.
Climate:
In the spring and autumn, daytime temperatures are generally in the 70s farenheit.
In the summer, temperatures are genarally in the 80s, and in the winter in the
60s. The Algarve tends to be slightly warmer than the Lisbon area, especially
in the summer. Rainfall is infrequent, and summers are almost totally dry, especially
in the Algarve.
People: The Portuguese are genarally a very civilised,
law-abiding and polite people, they are also generally very warm and hospitable
to visitors.
Crime: Portugal has a very low crime rate, and you
can feel safe, even on the streets of Lisbon at night. The whole country has a
very relaxed atmosphere. Although we would advise taking sensible precautions
with belongings. Golf
course conditions: You can expect all the courses we recommend to be in great
condition all year round, except in the case of freak weather.
Busy
periods: Spring and autumn are the busy times on the golf courses, as this
is when many golfers from northern Europe visit. In summer and winter, courses
are generally quiet.
Eating out: Portuguese cuisine is acceptible
to most people. Dishes are usually made from fresh local produce and are mostly
not spicy. Fish-lovers in particular are in for a treat. Portuguese wine is surprisingly
good, and the fortified Port wines are known around the world. Resort restaurants
are sophisticaed and offer a wide international menu, while local restaurants
can seem basic but the food is usually good, the service friendly, and prices
amazingly inexpensive. |
