Vale do Lobo Royal Golf Course
Central Algarve Region, Par 72, 6059 metres, 1997

Green Fee Guide: €€€

Overview: The Royal Course is one of two courses located on the upmarket development of Vale do Lobo in the central Algarve, just west of Faro airport. It shares the same clubhouse as it's sibling, the Ocean Course. The Royal is mainly mature parkland, but with spectacular sea views on the 15th and 16th holes. The original design was by Sir Henry Cotton, but with some later remodelling by Rocky Roquemore.

Reasons to play Vale do Lobo Royal: A beautiful course that has one of the most famous golf holes in mainland Europe, the stunning and long par 3, 16th hole, shown in the photo. Your tee shot needs to carry the cliffs above the beach. Generally, this is a very satisfying course that is usually in excellent condition.

Factors to consider at Vale do Lobo Royal: Buggies are expensive, so if you want to ride, check with the advertisers on our website to see if there are any special buggy deals for the date you want to play. You have to hire a buggy if playing before 10.30. Green fees can vary considerably depending on who you book with, so check out the discount tee time companies that advertise on this web site.

Degree of difficulty of Vale do Lobo Royal: It starts off tight, and it's an idea to keep the driver in the bag for the first four holes, but it becomes more forgiving. The greens are excellent, but are challenging to read, so putting can make or break your score. We think lower handicappers will really enjoy it, but mid handicappers can also do well.

Our overall verdict: A quality golf course in a classy setting. Highly Recommended
